The swiss regiments at the service of France:

The Swiss regiments contrary to the other foreign regiments served France by virtue of treaty of alliance and surrenders. The defensive treaty of alliance crossedbetween kings of France and Swiss cantons stipulated that these could make regular levyings of regiments.. The compensation guaranted to the Swiss consisted in allowing them  when  they wanted to exercise a business or an industry in the realm to make it in very favorable conditions. The Encyclopedia of Diderot and Alembert comes even there to say: " that the condition of the Swiss inFrance is much better than those of the subjects of King ". For four centuries from Charles VII to Charles X the fates of both nations are bound.
